Check out the new website on growing tomatoes from seeds, as well as all other aspects of home tomato gardening.
The site provides a complete rundown of the process. Following is a short summary of what you must consider.
Seeds – Wherever you get your seeds, make sure they are no more than 3 – 4 years old. Older than 4 years will lead to problems with germination.
Soil – Use starter seed mix that you can easily obtain from your local gardening center. Avoid ordinary potting soil as it can contain pests or diseases that may kill your delicate seeds.
Start Indoors – Start your seeds in March in small pots or trays indoors where you can keep the temperature at 70 degrees Fahrenheit during the day.
Transplanting – Generally in 6 – 8 weeks your seeds will have germinated and grown into seedlings that will be ready for outdoor planting. Make sure you “harden them off” first by acclimating them to the fluctuating outdoor temperatures.
How do you do that? check it out at http://www.tomatogrowingsecretinfo.com
Once your seedlings have been sufficiently conditioned to the outdoor weather, they can be transplanted to their final, permanent location in the outdoor garden.
