The water softener resin is an integral part of a water softener. It is non-dispensable, however if this will fail to function it can also be worth a fortune.
The water softener resin is responsible for removing the minerals from the hard water. It also swaps the sodium ions into the water that is saturated of calcium and magnesium ions.
There are two types of resin that is most used by water softeners today.
- The hi-cap resin is used by most models of water softeners.
- The fine mesh resin is more effective than the hi-cap resin in trapping minerals. It can trap certain metals such as iron. This type of resin is ideal especially for houses that take their water supply from wells instead of the water that is distributed by the municipal water system.
But not all models use the fine-mesh resin softener and in order to convert a water softener that uses the hi-cap resin will take a lot of effort.
Nothing lasts forever, like other things in the world there will come a time for the things we have to wear out. Usually a water softener resin can stay long for about twenty to twenty-five years before you will replace it.
