Pure Eau Water Coolers and Water Filters not only give you purified drinking water ~ you will have puried ICE CUBES!
How much for an ice cube?
10 pence apparently! While eating and drinking in restaurants can be expensive enough, tap water is the last thing you expect to pay for, let alone the ice cubes in your drinks. Insult is added to injury when the drink in question is regular tap water.
The charge for tap water if a restaurant sells alcohol became illegal from April 2010 with an offender incurring a hefty fine of several thousands of pounds or a prison sentence. They can only legitimately charge for bottled water, mineral water, or water filter drinks from a water cooler although that charge would be pushing the boundaries somewhat.
So when a customer at a Chinese restaurant in Kent asked for a glass of water with his meal, his surprise at being charged 20p for the two ice cubes staggered him.
In their defence, the owners said the charges were listed on the menu but a visit from the local licensing officers soon saw the charges being removed and the law complied with.
