A Pumpkin Princess Among the Pumpkin Patch

If you’ve ever grown pumpkins, you’ll know how big a single plant can grow! If you have a big pumpkin patch, or visit one, it’s lots of fun to find these hidden gourds underneath all the leaves and vines. It’s even more fun to pick the perfect one!

Pumpkins and Halloween are synonymous – you can’t have one without the other. And it’s easy to see why. They mature in October, just in time for the holiday, and can come in many strange shapes and grow to monstrous sizes. When I was out in the garden, I couldn’t help but think of autumn spirits, fairies, and ghosts. This got me thinking about costumes, which I was still trying to figure out for my infant. Why not a pumpkin princess costume?

I found the perfect one – with a frilly orange and green dress, she would make the perfect ruler over this pumpkin patch realm. I found one, too. It comes with a puffy skirt and a lace-up green vest that looks likes leaves, or the top of a pumpkin. With a matching headband and a wand, our like princess (or is that fairy) makes for a magical addition to our pumpkin harvesting!

With this vegetable, you can carve it into funny jack o’lantern faces, make delicious pie, cookies, warm soup, or eat it as part of a stew. It can be food and a Halloween decoration! Celebrating with a baby pumpkin costume is the perfect match for this season.

We dressed her in her cute orange and green dress, and let her play among the harvest. She greatly enjoyed her costume, and out the corner of my eye, I could swear she was one of these spirits among the garden. Times like these is what makes Halloween so special and magical!
