Why Interior Designers Are Turning to Artificial Flowers

No that long ago, silk flowers were reserved for hats and clothes and fake flowers were plastic tulips which were given away with washing powder.

In the last ten years all that has changed. Interior designers who would once have run away from the whole idea of plastic blooms are keen to buy fake flowers, what’s more they have become an essential part of the designers repertoir. What has brought about the change?

The first silk flowers were created for the Chinese emperors over 2000 years ago; the palace gardens were decorated with artificial blossoms throughout the winter. These days, many high profile personalities travel from home to home, they want to arrive to a beautiful home, but they don’t want to have to pay for expensive maintenance.

Today’s silk plants, flowers and trees provide the perfect compromise. Many are so real they can fool you even when you are close enough to touch. The best silk flowers are botanically accurate, the only difference is that they have no perfume, and even that can be fixed! You can even use artificial flowers for weddings!

The best way to create a modern interior is to take neutrally colored walls and fill with elegant neutral colored furniture. Then add a splash of color with silk flowers, plants and even trees, the odd ornament, some wall art and colored and scented candles.

The result? The perfect room.
