Growing Tomatoes in Pots and containers can be really fantastic way to make these tasty little fruits (sometimes big) available on your kitchen table.

Due to many of us moving into small places such as Villa’s, Apartments and Townhouses some of us lack the space to grow some tomatoes in the ground.

But we have the solution!

You can actually grow great Tomato crops in containers and I have been doing it successfuly for years in my Potted Vegetable Garden right on my apartment veranda.

There is an art to getting this right though, and to produce bumper crops! Believe me your family and friends will love you for it! Especially when you have a major surplus.

How To Grow Tomatoes In Pots At Home!

Below I have provide some pointers to get you started!

  • Make sure you use premium potting mix no cheapo’s (unless it’s on special)
  • Look for organic potting mix that contains Blood and Bone
  • Liquid fertilizer: As most potting mixes do not contain all the vital nutrients it is advised that you purchase a quality of liquid fertilizer. Seaweed and Fish emulsion and are great mix!
  • Apply the liquid fertilizer once a week and use a weak solution in the beginning stages
  • For successful growing tomatoes in pots stake the plants ofF and tie them vertical to hold up the fruits.
  • Don’t pick the fruits too early, wait until they are nice and red to get the best flavor
  • Plant a couple of varieties and always have some Cherry Tomatoes as these guys are toughest and are rarely effected by disease.
  • Plant your Tomatoes in very large containers that drain well and on occasion let the pot dry out just a little to avoid root rot. You can check the dampness by sticking your finger into the potting mix. It needs to always be just a little damp.
  • SUPER TIP 1: Buy a worm farm and use the castings and worm wee as fertilizer!
  • SUPER TIP 2: Grow your Tomatoes with its favorite companion Sweet Basil to increase flavor, repel pests and keep away disease!
