40 gallon propane water heaters are generally very reliable when you are using them to heat up your water, so you can enjoy nice hot water. But sometimes there may be a hiccup that you want to take care of yourself without having to hire a professional. One problem which is easy to fix but is very annoying is smelly water. If you have smelly water all you need to do is buy a small amount of drinking water safe chlorine and put it directly into the 40 gallon propane water heater tank.
Some times you may turn on your water heater and a little while later you find that the water is not hot. This may be because there is a problem with the propane connection or heating burner. Make sure there is propane in the tank, and that all connection are properly attached. Next check inside the water boiler door to see if the propane flame is a blue-green color. If there is no flame turn off the gas and wait until any excess gas goes away so you won’t blow up when you light it. Turn on the gas yourself, if it does not light turn off the gas and call a professional to fix it.
After a certain amount of use 40 gallon propane water heaters build up sediment in the hot water tank. This causes particles to appear in the water and or a discoloration. When this happens unscrew the base water attachment, make sure you turn off the water supply first. Then drain all the water from the tank and repplace it with clean water flushing out the dirty water until you don’t see anymore sediment coming from the tank entrance anymore.
