The One Cup Coffee Maker

Choosing the Best One Cup Coffee Maker

Single cup coffee makers are getting more popular and come in types that will use pods, k-cups, the drip method or a manual press. Thinking about a one button solution to make a single cup consider a pod or k-cup coffee maker.
The manual or French press is designed to be inexpensive but more work. The manual is not all the convenient and very hands on. The water needs to be heated, coffee grounds put in and then you push the handle down and wait.
To get the a drip coffee system going is pretty easy after the coffee grounds and water are added – just filp the switch. The part I hate is the clean up for a single cup. Some pods will work in a drip method coffee maker.
Usually, single-cup models are for people who just want a quick cup with the minimum of fuss. When you want a quick cup with minimual mess the pod or k-cup is the best single cup maker. Coffee quick with no filters and little cleanup which is great. Of course, you don’t get much control over the brewing process or maybe even the variety of coffee used. But all in all it is a good system.
Keeping the unit on so the water stays hot isn’t all that green. It can waste electricity if you leave it always on. Some units have auto on and offs. Another problem I have is throwing away the k-cup. I have tried the small filter you can buy and it is too messy.
When I was doing my research I found the best single cuppers are made by Keurig and Black and Decker. When you go out there looking for a model like this, look to make sure that the appliance you choose does make a full cup. Some coffeemakers will make no more than half a cup, while others will make several cups. Check coffee cup size.

With the pod and k-cup your coffee strength is determined by the size of the cup. Larger cup more water but the same size ground coffee.

The coffee makers can come pretty automatic with a few controls. I suggest you find a model that allows you to control the strength of the coffee. Most machines don’t give you much control of the temperature of the coffee. Cold milk or flavoring from the frig can cool off your cup of coffee pretty quick.

For those that like espresso and coffee there are some units that do both. Checkout this espresso machine review.
If you have a favorite coffee make sure you check to see if it is available in a pod or k-cup. It’s really no use getting a great coffeemaker appliance and finding out that your favorite brand of coffee doesn’t make pods or k-cups for your specific machine.
When you get down to it I guess I prefer the good old drip coffee maker. I can make as much as I want from a variety of coffee and I can compost the coffee grounds and filters.
